NUIG StudentMail on iPhone using MS Exchange
Here are the steps to add your NUI Galway StudentMail account to Mail.app using Microsoft Exchange.
- Launch Settings.app.
- Navigate to Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account...
- Choose Microsoft Exchange.
- Enter in the following details: (See Screen 1 below)
- Email: Your full email address (<email>@nuigalway.ie)
- Domain: Leave blank.
- Username: Your full email address again (<email>@nuigalway.ie)
- Password: Your NUI Galway password.
- Description: For the list of accounts in Mail.app, e.g. 'Nuigalway.ie'.
- Click Next
- An alert will pop up come up saying 'The certificate from "nuigalway.ie" for account "Nuigalway.ie" could not be verified' (See screen 2 below)
- Click Accept
- The next screen will show you the information you already entered with one new piece Server.
- What to put in for server
- If your iPhone is running any version before 3.0 put m.outlook.com for Server and click Next. (See screen 3 below)
- If your iPhone is running 3.0 or higher you'll need to figure out a different address to use.
To do this simply log in to your StudentMail account in a web browser. Once at your inbox note down the URL that you are eventually redirected to. If the address is https://db2prd0102.outlook.com/owa/ (it probably will be) you enter db2prd0102.outlook.com for Server. Simple.
- Once the Exchange account has been verified you can choose what you want to sync then click Done.
One thing to be aware of though is NUI Galway send out a lot of emails in the middle of the night around 3am Irish time. You'll get Student Union, Grad Ireland etc emails. If you have push or fetch on for this account getting these emails might wake you up some nights. I'm saying this from experience. You might want to consider changing the push and fetch settings for this account. To do so, go into Settings.app and go to Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Fetch New Data > Advanced > (NUI Galway Account). Then select the option you want.
